FORT WORTH, Texas (TXAN 24) — At the halfway mark in Fort Worth, it’s been a gritty, physical battle between Notre Dame and Vanderbilt, with both teams feeling the weight of a Sweet Sixteen moment.
Notre Dame has looked like the more composed team through two quarters, setting the tone early with defensive pressure and attacking the basket with confidence. Their ability to force turnovers and turn them into points has been one of the biggest differences so far.
Vanderbilt, on the other hand, hasn’t quite found its rhythm yet. The Commodores have had solid looks, especially from the perimeter, but shots just haven’t been falling consistently. When they’ve been able to slow things down and work inside, they’ve had more success—but it hasn’t been sustained.
The energy inside Dickies Arena has been loud and balanced, with both fan bases traveling well, creating a true tournament atmosphere.
Notre Dame’s defensive intensity is dictating the pace, making it tough for Vanderbilt to get comfortable offensively. On the flip side, Vanderbilt is staying within reach thanks to effort on the boards and second-chance opportunities.
If Vanderbilt wants to flip this game, it starts with taking better care of the basketball and knocking down open shots. For Notre Dame, the game plan is simple: keep the pressure high and continue attacking downhill.
With a spot in the Elite Eight on the line, expect a much more aggressive and urgent second half from both sides.
