Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans Both Start NFL Season 0-1

DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — The 2026 NFL season opened with disappointment for both of Texas' teams. The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans each opened the season with losses, leaving both teams 0-1 heading into Week 2.

The Cowboys fell 28-20 to the New York Giants on Sunday in East Rutherford, giving new Giants head coach John Harbaugh a victory in his debut. Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 175 yards and two touchdowns, but an interception and New York's ability to control possession helped keep the Cowboys from completing a comeback.

Dallas also left the opener dealing with injuries, including concerns surrounding safety Malik Hooker and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.

For Houston, the opening-week loss creates a similar early-season challenge: avoid allowing one game to become a trend.

An 0-1 start is hardly a season-defining result in September, but expectations remain high for both Texas franchises.

The Cowboys now turn their attention to correcting the mistakes that cost them against New York, while the Texans will look to establish momentum before an early deficit becomes more difficult to overcome.
