AUSTIN, Texas (TXAN 24) — Cumberland Academy will remain in its current district and classification after the District Assignment Appeals Committee of the University Interscholastic League voted Monday to deny the school’s appeal.
Cumberland Academy had requested to be moved down in classification for basketball and volleyball as part of the UIL’s biennial reclassification and realignment process.
The appeal was heard during the committee’s meeting in the Austin area following the release of new district assignments earlier this month.
With the denial, Cumberland Academy’s basketball and volleyball programs will compete as originally assigned for the upcoming UIL cycle.
Realignment decisions can significantly affect competitive balance, district travel, and postseason pathways, particularly for programs navigating enrollment shifts.
The UIL’s reclassification and realignment determines district placements for the next two academic years.
TXAN 24 News will continue to monitor how the updated alignments impact schools across East Texas.
