Cougars Host Rice in Silver Glove Series Finale

HOUSTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — University of Houston baseball returns to Schroeder Park Tuesday night for the final game of the Silver Glove Series against Rice University, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The Cougars enter the matchup looking to complete a season sweep over Rice and extend their current eight-game winning streak in the rivalry. Houston defeated the Owls 4-3 in their most recent meeting on April 21.

Houston is coming off a series victory at Arizona, highlighted by a 13-inning win in which the Cougars recorded 23 hits. The team has also secured notable wins this season over nationally ranked opponents including Texas, Alabama, West Virginia, and Wake Forest.

Left-hander Chris Scinta is expected to start for Houston, carrying a 1-3 record with 20 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched. Rice is projected to counter with right-hander Jeremiah Arnett.

The Cougars have challenged one of the toughest schedules in Division I baseball this season, facing 34 Top 100 opponents and 18 Quad One teams. Houston also opened the year with a 4-0 run at the Puerto Rico Challenge and climbed into national poll consideration earlier this spring.

Tuesday’s game marks Houston’s final regular-season homestand and will feature the team’s last Baseball Bingo and Houston Blue promotions of the year.
