HOUSTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — Cory Houston, who has spent more than three years working with the University of Houston’s Baseball and Women’s Golf programs, has been promoted to Director of Sports Performance for Olympic Sports, the department announced.

In his new role, Houston (pronounced House-ton) will oversee sport performance programming, implementation, research, and education for all Olympic sports. He will also continue serving as the primary sport performance coach for Cougar Baseball and Women’s Golf.

Houston will manage and develop the strength and performance department’s intern program while helping lead and mentor the current sport performance staff. The role expands his influence across the athletic department as Houston continues to integrate cutting-edge technology, research, and training methods into Houston’s performance model.

During his time with the Cougar Baseball program, Houston played a key role in several notable athlete transformations. He helped guide Antoine Jean’s return from Tommy John surgery, culminating in Jean earning Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team honors as a reliever in 2025. Houston also worked with Cary Arbolida, who progressed from a platoon outfielder to an All-Big 12 Second Team selection during Houston’s first season with the program in 2024.

University officials say Houston’s promotion reflects his impact on athlete development and his ability to elevate performance at the highest level of collegiate athletics.
