DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Buying a vehicle is one of the biggest purchases many Americans make, but the sticker price is only part of the equation.

For many owners, depreciation becomes one of the largest costs of vehicle ownership. Kelley Blue Book estimates the average 2026 model-year vehicle will retain roughly 45% of its original value after five years.

But some vehicles perform considerably better.

Kelley Blue Book’s 2026 Best Resale Value Awards identified 10 vehicles projected to retain the highest percentage of their original MSRP after five years. The group averages about 56.2% retained value, compared with 44.7% for the average new vehicle.

Demand is a major factor. Trucks, off-road SUVs and certain performance vehicles maintain strong demand in the used market. That is particularly relevant in Texas, where pickup trucks remain a major part of the automotive market.
