HOUSTON, Texas (TXAN 24) - Questions are being raised tonight about the murder conviction of 19-year-old Ramon Vasquez.

Vasquez was found guilty in a deadly shooting that followed a car crash — but his family says the jury never heard about his long history of serious mental health issues, including ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and psychotic paranoia.

His mother says she gave his full medication list to the defense attorney, but claims it was never shared in court. Instead, the judge was told Vasquez was not on medication at the time.

Video shows the shooting happened just seconds after impact. Family members say Vasquez was in a psychotic state and later interrogated under duress.

Community activist Brother Quanell X is now demanding a review of the case — calling it a failure of the justice system to protect a defendant struggling with severe mental illness.
