FORT WORTH, Texas (TXAN 24) — The nation’s only African American touring rodeo is saddling up for a powerful return. The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (BPIR) gallops back into Fort Worth on Saturday, June 14 for its annual Texas Connection Series Juneteenth Celebration at Cowtown Coliseum — with showtimes at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Known as the “greatest show on dirt,” BPIR blends high-octane rodeo sport with cultural heritage. Expect thrilling competition in bull riding, ranch bronc and bareback riding, barrel racing, team roping, and more — all featuring elite Black cowboys and cowgirls.
This year’s Juneteenth celebration is presented in partnership with Professional Bull Riders (PBR) and includes a stirring performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by Dacia Kings, Fort Worth’s 2024 Soul Country Music Star finalist. She’ll also perform live on the Cowtown stage before and after the afternoon event.
Fans can also join in the action with BPIR’s signature “Boots on the Ground” Line Dance Challenge, led by electrifying DJ and Music Director Tiffany Guess.
BPIR President Valeria Howard Cunningham says this isn’t just a rodeo — it’s a legacy: “We’re proud to partner with PBR and continue uplifting the voices and stories of Black rodeo athletes in the birthplace of the movement.”
