TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — In a pre-Championship press conference Monday, Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark made it clear he believes the league has more than one playoff-caliber team heading into Selection Weekend.
Yormark said Texas Tech, BYU and Utah all “deserve consideration for the College Football Playoff,” pointing to the league’s depth, late-season toughness and the quality of games that shaped the final standings.
Yormark noted that competitive balance has been the Big 12’s identity this season, and argued that a close championship game would further support the idea that the league has multiple teams worthy of postseason spotlight.
Texas Tech enters Championship Week with one of the nation’s most consistent defenses, while BYU’s offense has surged behind a late-season rhythm that caught national attention. Utah, meanwhile, has quietly built one of the strongest résumés through grit, balance and road wins that Yormark called as impressive as any in college football.
With the CFP committee facing one of its most difficult selection cycles in years, Yormark’s message was simple: the Big 12 has earned its seat at the table—maybe more than one.
