OPINION: Alabama Football Isn’t Falling Off — We’re Just Rebuilding with Purpose

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (TXAN 24) — I’ve been an Alabama fan for as long as I can remember. It runs in my family — my dad and grandparents are loyal Tide supporters. And honestly, the elephant mascot didn’t hurt either. (Elephants are my favorite animal — how could I not be all in?)

But heading into this second season without Nick Saban still feels surreal.

It’s been over a year since the GOAT stepped away from the sidelines, and while the shock has worn off, the void he left is still very real. His presence built Alabama into a dynasty — not just a football program. And while it’s been comforting to still see him on College GameDay, the Saturdays without Saban at the helm still take getting used to.

Kalen DeBoer came in last season with enormous pressure, and I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. Taking over a program built by a legend isn’t just a job — it’s a test of legacy, culture, and patience. And his first year? It wasn’t flawless, but it was necessary. DeBoer had to lead a team full of Saban recruits, manage the aftershocks of a wave of transfers, and start building his own identity with the Tide. No easy task.

Now, in year two, the expectations are different. It’s no longer just about transition — it’s about traction.

We’re still rebuilding, but the foundation is getting stronger. Players like Ryan Williams — #2 — are the type of athletes that keep fans hopeful. His potential is unreal, and if the offense can find its rhythm, Alabama can absolutely make a push for the playoffs.

And for me personally, watching this team brings even more pride knowing several key players come straight out of East Texas. Names like Jalen Hale (Longview), Dre Washington (Hemphill), Bubba Hampton (Daingerfield), Jam Miller (Tyler), and Casey Poe (Lindale) bring a strong dose of Texas grit to Tuscaloosa. They represent not just elite talent — they represent home.

Is this a guaranteed championship year? Maybe not. But this team is growing — and fast.

People love to hate Alabama fans. They call us arrogant. But that confidence is rooted in tradition, in excellence, and in loyalty. We’ve stood behind this program through highs and lows. We’ve cheered for legends like Derrick Henry and Jalen Hurts. And we’ve carried our love for Alabama beyond the Saban era, because the Tide is bigger than one man — even if that man changed the game.

We know what greatness looks like. And that’s why we also know what it takes to build it again.

This isn’t the end. This is the rebuild. And Alabama’s not going anywhere — we’re just getting started.

ROLL TIDE!!!
