UNDEFEATED: Smithson-Valley wins 5A-D1 Girls Soccer State Championship

GEORGETOWN, Texas (TXAN 24) - Friday morning in Georgetown, we saw the 5A-D1 Girls Soccer State Final match-up decide who would take home the Championship title between Smithson Valley (28-0) and Walnut Grove (23-2-1).

In a tightly contested championship match, Smithson Valley High School emerged victorious over Walnut Grove High School to capture the UIL 5A-D1 State Championship Soccer title in dramatic fashion.
After a scoreless 0-0 battle through regulation, both teams showed resilience on the defensive end, refusing to give up a breakthrough goal. Goalkeepers on both sides delivered standout performances, turning away multiple scoring opportunities and forcing the match into extra

With the pressure at its peak and a state title on the line, Smithson Valley capitalized in extra time, delivering the lone goal of the match. The decisive score sent their sideline into celebration and ultimately secured the championship victory.
Walnut Grove fought hard throughout, matching Smithson Valley’s intensity and keeping the game level for the entirety of regulation. But in the end, it was Smithson Valley’s ability to execute in the clutch that made the difference.
The win caps off an impressive season for Smithson Valley, cementing their place at the top of Texas high school soccer in Class 5A Division I. For Walnut Grove, despite the loss, their deep playoff run and defensive performance in the final solidify them as one of the state’s elite programs.
