MCKINNEY, Texas (TXAN 24) — In a major shakeup inside Texas politics, State Senator Angela Paxton has officially filed for divorce from Attorney General Ken Paxton after nearly four decades of marriage.
Angela Paxton, who currently represents parts of Collin County in the Texas Senate, filed the paperwork in Collin County Court, citing “insupportable conflict” and “recent discoveries.”
She stated in a post that while she believes marriage is a sacred covenant, remaining in the relationship no longer honors God, her family, or herself.
The filing accuses Ken Paxton of adultery and confirms the two have been living separately since June 2024. Angela is requesting a disproportionate share of the couple’s estate, including exclusive use of their $1.45 million home in McKinney and her 2021 Chevy Silverado.
This news comes as Ken Paxton is actively campaigning for the U.S. Senate, challenging longtime incumbent John Cornyn in the Republican primary. The divorce adds a personal and potentially damaging chapter to Paxton’s already controversial political narrative. In 2023, Paxton survived an impeachment trial centered on alleged corruption and extramarital affairs.
Angela and Ken met while attending Baylor University and married in 1986. They share four children and five grandchildren.
Ken Paxton responded with a brief public statement acknowledging the divorce and asking for privacy.
With both Paxtons holding elected office and deeply tied to Texas Republican politics, the fallout from this divorce could ripple through upcoming campaigns and reshape political alliances across the state.
TXAN 24 will continue covering this developing story.
