NORMAN, Oklahoma (TXAN 24) — For a few early minutes, East Texas A&M went shot for shot with one of the nation’s top teams. But a major first-quarter surge from the No. 8/7 Oklahoma Sooners created separation the Lions couldn’t recover from, falling 112–59 Wednesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center.
With 5:51 left in the opening frame, the Lions trailed by just a point. Oklahoma responded with a 14-0 run, flipping the momentum and building a 34–21 lead after one. From there, the Sooners—coming off a Sweet 16 appearance last season—continued to roll, stretching the advantage to as much as 58.
Oklahoma’s front line dominated the stat sheet. Raegan Beers put up 23 points in just 17 minutes, Sahara Williams added 22, and all three of the Sooners’ top scorers finished with double-doubles.
Reza Po led the Lions with a strong night at the stripe, scoring 15 points and knocking down all seven of her free throws. Tiani Ellison added 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Nearly every Lion who checked in found the scoring column, and ETAMU had an efficient 17-for-18 showing at the line.
The Lions drop to 2–2 on the season, while Oklahoma moves to 5–1.
