TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — In one of the most anticipated early-season matchups in East Texas, Tyler Legacy stunned previously unbeaten Tyler High on Tuesday night, taking a 72–66 win in front of a packed gym.
Legacy set the tone early with a fast start, using disciplined half-court defense to slow down Tyler High’s high-powered offense. The Red Raiders controlled the boards for much of the game, limiting second-chance points and keeping pressure on the Lions to hit contested shots.
Tyler High made its push in the fourth-quarter, trimming a double-digit deficit to just two, but Legacy responded with a poised fourth-quarter stretch.
Timely scoring, smart ball movement, and clutch free throws down the stretch allowed the Red Raiders to hold off every Lions rally.
The win marks Legacy’s biggest statement of the season so far and ends Tyler High’s undefeated run. For the Lions, it’s a setback — but also a chance to regroup.
Both teams now shift their focus toward maintaining momentum heading into the heart of December competition, with this rivalry clash setting an early tone for what could be an exciting season in the Tyler area.
