TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — A local daycare is under investigation by Child Protective Services (CPS) and law enforcement following a distressing incident involving two young children.
According to a parent’s account shared on social media, their 2-year-old son was found crying and unattended outside the daycare for at least 15 minutes, while another toddler was discovered on a nearby road and nearly hit by a car.
The parent alleges that staff at First Steps Daycare failed to notice the children were missing for an extended period, raising serious concerns about supervision and safety protocols.
The parent went on to say that the police officer who responded to the incident reported finding the parent’s child sitting outside the daycare in cold conditions, covered in boogers, and visibly upset.
According to the post by the parent, Child Protective Services has launched an investigation into the daycare, which may include allegations of child neglect and endangerment.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the daycare’s response has reportedly lacked transparency, with the owner remaining unavailable for comment and the director minimizing the incident, according to the parent.
“It’s hard enough to have to leave your child to go to work everyday but when you do, you hope nothing like this happens. When it does, something must be done about it. As parents we advocate for our kids. I thank god nothing worse happened to my son and I just hope the daycare will take some accountability for their negligence.” said Shalamar Colon
