TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — If you get a traffic ticket in Texas, you must respond by the date on the citation.

You can plead not guilty and contest the ticket in court (in person, by mail, or online where allowed).

After a not-guilty plea, you’ll be assigned a court date and can present your case before a judge.

If you are found guilty, you typically have 10 days to file an appeal with notice to the proper court.

It’s important not to ignore the traffic ticket deadline, or you could face additional penalties.
