AUSTIN, Texas (TXAN 24) — Texas ranked 15th in a state-by-state ranking of workplace discrimination charge rates, recording a total score of 51.32, according to the supplied data.

The ranking examines reported charges across nine categories, including race, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, color, pregnancy-related discrimination and retaliation. Rates are measured per 100,000 employees.

Texas recorded 40.10 retaliation charges per 100,000 employees, the highest rate among the nine categories listed for the state. Disability discrimination charges reached 26.44 per 100,000 employees, while race discrimination charges stood at 21.87.

The state's reported rate for sex discrimination was 19.54 per 100,000 employees. Pregnancy-related discrimination charges registered 1.91 per 100,000 employees.

Georgia led the supplied state ranking with a total score of 96.13, followed by Arkansas at 82.87 and Illinois at 70.67. Texas ranked ahead of Washington, Kansas and Louisiana, among other states.

The figures measure reported charges, not confirmed violations or the prevalence of discrimination across all workplaces. Differences in reporting behavior, workforce composition and enforcement processes can affect comparisons between states.

The supplied data from PEO Metrics did not identify the reporting period or provide the methodology used to calculate the total scores.

For Texas employers and workers, the ranking offers a comparative look at reported workplace discrimination charges, while underscoring the importance of distinguishing allegations from substantiated findings.
