JACKSONVILLE, Texas — A year has passed since a Cherokee County jury found one of the individuals charged in connection to Tyress Gipson’s disappearance not guilty, yet his family is still searching for answers. The Jacksonville teenager vanished in 2020, and despite multiple arrests, his body has never been found.
Following the verdict last year, Gipson’s mother, LaVance Hill-Wooten, and stepfather, Gerald Wooten, expressed their disappointment but remained steadfast in their faith. They were frustrated with the investigation, stating that key leads had been ignored, but vowed to continue their fight for justice.
“We gave Jacksonville PD everything we had,” Gerald Wooten said at the time. “We pointed out critical details, but they weren’t followed up on.”
Even in the face of setbacks, the Wootens have kept Gipson’s story alive, using social media to push for answers. Their weekly campaign, #TyressTuesday, remains active, ensuring his case is not forgotten.
“Where is my son?” Hill-Wooten asked last year, a question that still haunts the family today. “He didn’t just disappear into thin air.”
Despite the passage of time, the Wootens continue to hold onto hope that the truth about what happened to Tyress Gipson will one day come to light.
