AUSTIN, Texas (TXAN 24) — In response to ongoing flood damage across Central and South Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has authorized an expansion of SNAP hot-food benefits.
Twenty-six additional counties are now eligible, allowing SNAP recipients to use their benefits to purchase prepared hot foods from authorized retailers. This temporary measure will remain in effect through the end of July.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission says the expansion is aimed at easing hardships faced by displaced and flood-affected residents.
