DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — SMU walked into Saturday knowing the path to a conference title and a postseason spot would only be possible with help. They handled their part — and then Pitt took care of the rest.

The Mustangs knocked off Louisville at home in front of a fired-up Ford Stadium crowd, putting together one of their most complete performances of the season. With Pitt upsetting Georgia Tech, SMU now officially controls its own destiny heading into the final stretch.

SMU’s offense clicked early, the defense forced timely stops, and momentum swung completely after a pair of explosive plays in the second half. Now the Mustangs sit in prime position to close out the regular season with everything on the table: a conference championship appearance, national rankings movement, and major bowl implications.

Rhett Lashlee’s group has played its way into the driver’s seat — and now they don’t need anyone else’s scoreboard to cooperate.
