New Goldenrod Platform Targets Texas Film Incentives As State Expands Production Funding

TEXAS (TXAN 24) — Texas is making a major push to become one of the nation’s leading destinations for film and television production, and a new Texas-based company is looking to help filmmakers navigate the money available to make that happen.

Goldenrod has officially launched as a production-incentive platform designed to help film and television producers understand state incentive programs and maximize eligible rebates. The company is initially operating in Texas, Louisiana and Kentucky, with plans to expand its reach nationally.

The launch comes as Texas begins implementing a historic expansion of its Moving Image Industry Incentive Program. Under the new program, Texas has committed $1.5 billion over 10 years, with $300 million allocated every two years through 2035. Qualifying productions can receive incentives based on eligible in-state spending, with potential bonuses depending on factors such as location and workforce participation.

Goldenrod was founded by Ted Griffis and Brandon Thomas of Austin-based TBD Post, along with Texas producer Russell Wayne Groves. The team brings experience in production and post-production, including work associated with projects such as Iron Lung, The Long Game and Fathom.

For independent filmmakers, the timing could be significant. Texas’ expanded program is designed to bring more productions into the state, create jobs and encourage filmmakers to keep more of their production spending in Texas.

For filmmakers considering Texas, Goldenrod’s goal is straightforward: help producers understand the incentive landscape, structure their productions effectively and avoid leaving potential funding on the table.

As Texas competes with states across the country for film and television projects, the next decade could determine whether the Lone Star State becomes more than a backdrop for stories—and becomes the place where more of those stories are actually made.
