ARLINGTON, Texas (TXAN 24) - The 90th Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic was held at AT&T Stadium and had over 71,000 fans in the building for a College Football Playoff match-up between the 10th ranked Miami Hurricanes and 2nd ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Miami Hurricanes received the kickoff and were quickly met by the #1 defensive team in the country; which resulted in a prompt 3 and out series. But not to be out done, the Miami Hurricane defense delivered their own prompt 3 and out and got the ball punted back to their offense.

Miami would get some momentum on their next drive but that would be halted in the Red Zone with a forced fumble by Texas native LB Payton Pierce on Miami RB Mark Fletcher Jr. This caliber of defense was a staple for both teams for the entirety of the first quarter, which ended without any points on the board.

The Miami Hurricanes picked back up on their rhythm from the first quarter and QB Carson Beck hit RB Mark Fletcher on a yard touchdown pass to break the seal on this game. As Ohio State took possession QB Julian Sayin connected with WR Jeremiah Smith on a long bomb for yards.
The very next play Buckeyes QB Julian Sayin botched a pass and had it intercepted by DB Keionte Smith and returned to the house for a Miami Hurricanes, bringing the score to 14-0.

Ohio State had a chance to put points on the board, at the end of the half with a field goal but a wide left attempt kept them at nil going into the break.
After halftime we saw an Ohio State Buckeye touchdown and a Hurricane field goal in the 3rd Quarter but the game changing play up until this point was delivered by Jeremiah Smith who capped off a 10-play scoring drive with a 14-yard reception from Julian Sayin to bring the Buckeyes within 3 points in the 4th Quarter.

The Miami Hurricane would shut the door on any chance of a come back with a late fourth quarter touchdown followed by an interception to seal the deal, they now advance to the College Football Playoff Semifinals with a trip to the National Championship in their home state on the line.
