HOUSTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — For Houston senior running back Stacy Sneed, growth hasn’t just been about yards gained or touchdowns scored — it’s been about finding his voice, embracing leadership, and learning to navigate life on and off the field.

The Arlington, Texas native’s journey with the Cougars has spanned six seasons, starting amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and a setback in 2021 due to academic ineligibility. But Sneed stayed committed, seizing the opportunity to make an impact when his number was finally called in 2022.

Over 41 games with Houston, he has totaled 1,202 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, along with 54 receptions for 334 yards and two scores through the air. Beyond the stats, Sneed has grown into a mentor, helping guide younger players and becoming a vocal presence in the locker room — a far cry from the quiet freshman who first arrived on campus.

“Stop making bad decisions. Lock in on football. Let the main things be the main things,” Sneed said. “I’ve never been the guy to speak up, but helping the guys around me became my way to lead.”

Saturday’s Senior Day at TDECU Stadium will mark the final home game of Sneed’s Houston career. Beyond football, he’s turning his attention to fatherhood, raising his daughter Soleigh and applying the same focus and dedication he’s shown on the field to life at home.

“My heart is always going to be in Houston,” Sneed said. “I am thankful for all the fans and all the people that have shown love during the years I was here.”

For Texas football fans, Sneed’s story is a reminder that perseverance, loyalty, and personal growth are just as important as the stats on the scoreboard.
