Jacksonville’s Tomato Bowl claims State Title for best stadium

JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) —Jacksonville, Texas just shook up the state.

In a stunning finish to Dave Campbell’s 2025 “Best High School Football Stadium” bracket challenge, the legendary Tomato Bowl claimed the crown — in the final round of fan voting and making East Texas history in the process.

Built in 1940 and named for Jacksonville’s tomato-packing legacy, the Tomato Bowl isn’t just a stadium — it’s a symbol. The iconic stone structure, recently renovated under budget and ahead of schedule, has long been the heart of Jacksonville’s football culture. Now, it’s officially the best in the Lone Star State.

The annual contest, run by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, pits stadiums from across Texas in a March Madness-style fan vote. Year after year, heavyweights enter — but this time, it was Jacksonville that came out on top.

Already named one of Dave Campbell’s “bucket list” stadiums back in 2019, this new title cements the Tomato Bowl as sacred turf. And if you’ve ever stood under the Friday night lights in Jacksonville, you know why.

East Texas is on the map — and it’s not coming off anytime soon.
