Huluween Documentary Clown Panic Revisits The 2016 Clown Sightings That Sparked A National Frenzy
DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — A bizarre chapter in modern American pop culture is getting the documentary treatment this Halloween.
Hulu will premiere Clown Panic on October 12 as part of its annual Huluween programming. The documentary will be available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., as well as Disney+ internationally.
The film revisits the 2016 wave of reported clown sightings that began in a small South Carolina community before spreading across the country. What initially appeared to be isolated reports quickly became a national phenomenon, leading to school lockdowns, police investigations and widespread media coverage.
Clown Panic combines archival footage, viral internet videos and interviews with witnesses, law enforcement officials, clowns and cultural commentators to examine how fear and social media helped transform the sightings into a nationwide moral panic.
Directed by Ed Perkins and produced by Lightbox’s Jonathan Chinn and Simon Chinn, the documentary also explores the broader cultural anxieties surrounding the phenomenon and why the events continue to resonate years later.
The documentary joins Huluween’s 2026 lineup, which includes seasonal favorites, new series and films, including Hocus Pocus, Edward Scissorhands, American Horror Story: 13, Soulm8te and Hokum.
