HOUSTON, Texas (TXAN 24) — The University of Houston Athletics baseball team picked up its fourth ranked win of the season Friday night, defeating Arizona State Sun Devils baseball 5-3 at Schroeder Park behind five shutout innings from senior Harrison Boushele.

Houston improved to 24-30 overall and 7-22 in Big 12 play after shutting down one of the nation’s top offenses. Arizona State entered the weekend averaging more than 11 hits per game and ranked among the top scoring teams nationally.

The Sun Devils jumped ahead early with back-to-back home runs to open the game before adding another run in the third inning for a 3-0 lead.

The Cougars responded in the bottom half of the third. Tyler Cox drove in Houston’s first run before Tre Broussard added another on an infield single. Senior Cade Climie later tied the game with an RBI double.

Freshman Blake Fields gave Houston the lead for good in the seventh inning with a solo home run, his third of the season. Riley Jackson later drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to extend the advantage to 5-3.

Boushele earned the win after allowing just two hits across five shutout innings in relief.

Climie finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Antonelli Savattere extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Houston and Arizona State will meet in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Schroeder Park.
