Houston Cougars Dominate Kansas State Behind Patrick Overmyer’s Four Touchdown Catches

MANHATTAN, Kansas (TXAN 24) — The No. 22 Houston Cougars earned a 35-16 road victory over Kansas State on Saturday, powered by a record-tying performance from tight end Patrick Overmyer.


The Houston junior caught four touchdown passes from senior quarterback Conner Weigman, tying the NCAA record for touchdown receptions by a tight end in a game. Overmyer finished with eight catches for 83 yards.


Weigman completed 19 of 30 passes for 242 yards and four touchdowns, marking the fourth time in his career he has thrown four touchdown passes in a game.


Houston (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) established control early, scoring on its opening possession and building a 21-3 halftime lead. The Cougars added two more touchdown connections between Weigman and Overmyer to extend their advantage.


The Cougars finished with 475 yards of total offense, including 242 passing yards and 233 rushing yards. Re’Shaun Sanford led Houston with 90 rushing yards on 20 carries, while Makhi Hughes added 78 yards and a touchdown on 14 attempts.


Houston’s defense limited Kansas State (3-2, 0-2 Big 12) to 299 total yards, including just 183 through the first three quarters.


The victory also marked Houston’s first road win against Kansas State in the teams’ series.


The Cougars return to TDECU Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17, to host No. 18 Oklahoma State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on FOX.
