JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) — Jacksonville Police Department has failed to meet the legal response deadline for a public information request related to the November 2, 2025 shooting involving an officer and a JPD K-9, prompting concerns about transparency and compliance with Texas law.

On November 2, officers responded to the 1100 block of Churchill Street near the Benson Memorial area, where a warrant-related encounter escalated into a shooting. The multi-agency scene remained active for nearly 36 hours.

TXAN 24 News submitted an official request under the Texas Public Information Act and Texas Occupations Code §1701.661 seeking incident reports, CAD logs, body-worn camera footage, K-9 deployment documentation, warrant records, tow logs, internal review notes and any Texas Rangers materials tied to the case. The request also asked for policies on warrant service and use-of-force, as well as information about reported property damage to neighboring homes.

Under state law, agencies must respond within 10 business days with the records, a timeline for release, or a formal notice that they are seeking an Attorney General ruling. Jacksonville PD provided none of the above.

TXAN 24 News has filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General’s Office, citing the department’s failure to comply with Gov’t Code Chapter 552.

Community members have also raised questions about the prolonged scene, use of a K-9, and the handling of warrants connected to Bobby Michael Dennis.

TXAN 24 News will continue pushing for the records and updating this developing story
