Equinox Named Texas’ Most Hated Gym Chain In New Study
DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — A new study analyzing millions of Google ratings across the country ranks Equinox as the gym chain with the highest share of one- and two-star reviews in Texas.
Bespoke Fit analyzed 2.7 million Google ratings across all 50 states, ranking gym chains based on the percentage of their ratings that received one or two stars.
According to the study, 37.5% of the 1,040 Google ratings for Equinox’s four Texas locations were one or two stars, giving the chain the highest percentage among the 11 gym chains compared in the state.
LA Fitness ranked second in Texas at 22.8%, while Snap Fitness recorded the lowest share among the chains included in the Texas comparison at 7.2%.
Bespoke Fit also examined the written complaints contained in negative reviews. The study found that staff-related complaints accounted for 38.2% of Equinox’s negative reviews with text.
“Texas recorded the highest share of one- and two-star ratings anywhere in the study, and what members complain about there is service, not equipment,” said Carl J. Borg, founder and fitness trends expert at Bespoke Fit. “That is the pattern we see in every market: members will forgive a lot, but not being treated badly.”
Nationally, Equinox also recorded the highest share of one- and two-star ratings among the gym chains analyzed, at 30.7%, followed by Life Time at 24.0%.
The study describes its rankings as an analysis of Google ratings and does not independently establish the reasons behind individual customer experiences or determine whether the reviews are representative of all members.
