COMMERCE, Texas (TXAN 24) – East Texas A&M University athletic director Jim Curry has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Oversight Committee, the university announced this week. His four-year term began September 30 and runs through August 2029.
The FCS Oversight Committee includes 18 members nationwide, with each FCS conference represented by one delegate. Curry will serve as the representative for the Southland Conference.
Now entering his third year leading athletics at East Texas A&M, Curry has overseen major milestones for the program—including accelerating the university’s NCAA Division I reclassification process, which reached full Division I membership and postseason eligibility a year ahead of schedule.
The FCS Oversight Committee plays a critical role in shaping the future of Division I football at the championship subdivision level. Its responsibilities include:
Overseeing FCS playing rules and development of the sport
Supervising selection procedures for the FCS Championship
Reviewing recommendations from the NCAA Division I Football Championship Committee
Addressing strategic initiatives and emerging issues in the subdivision
Curry’s appointment gives East Texas A&M and the Southland Conference a direct voice in the continued growth and governance of FCS football.
