AUSTIN, Texas (TXAN 24) — Nationally renowned civil rights activist and advocate Dr. Candice Matthews is set to take a bold stand at the Texas State Capitol on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 9 AM, to demand accountability and oppose the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Senate Finance Committee request.
Known for her fearless activism and commitment to social justice, Dr. Matthews will “drop the hammer of accountability” in an effort to block funding or policy proposals that she believes fail to protect the interests of vulnerable communities. Not to mention she pledges to have witnesses from cases involving CPS testify at the hearing as well.
The event is expected to draw supporters, community leaders, and advocates seeking transparency and reform within the HHSC and DFPS.
The hearing will take place on the Senate floor at the Texas State Capitol, located at 1100 Congress Ave., Austin, TX. Supporters are encouraged to attend and stand in solidarity.
