TYLER, Texas — Tensions rose outside the Smith County Courthouse Wednesday morning when Scotty Lee Goble, 54, accused in the October shooting death of Heriberto “Eddie” Ramirez, reportedly had a brief exchange with Ramirez’s family.
Goble, currently out on bond, was seen in a video captured by KLTV, walking outside when he appeared to make a comment toward two of Ramirez’s relatives. The family members, holding signs that read “Justice for Eddie,” were visibly shaken and alerted deputies.
The incident has reportedly struck a nerve with members of the local Hispanic community, many expressing frustration online. Some questioned why a murder suspect is walking free on bond. The exchange could not have come at a worse time as East Texas is in the mist of rising federal immigration enforcement activity.
In court, a pre-trial hearing was scheduled for August 8, with the trial set to begin August 25.
TXAN 24 News will continue covering this case and its impact on the community.
