JACKSONVILLE, Texas (TXAN 24) — A 23-year-old burglary suspect was arrested Monday in Jacksonville after a stolen AK-47-style pistol was traced back to a reported break-in.

According to a media release from the Jacksonville Police Department, officers were dispatched at 7:47 a.m. on August 5 after a burglary was caught on surveillance footage. The suspect, identified as Jayden Duane Hopson, was seen taking the firearm.

Due to Hopson’s extensive criminal record—which includes previous charges of murder and aggravated robbery—the Cherokee County Regional SWAT team was activated. The team included support from the Jacksonville Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Bullard Police Department, and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.

Authorities executed the arrest warrant at 1:36 p.m. at a residence on 1010 Border Street, where Hopson was taken into custody without incident. Four other individuals in the home were detained for questioning.

Officers recovered the stolen firearm during a search of the property.

The case remains under active investigation, and additional charges may be filed. Jacksonville PD credited teamwork across multiple agencies for bringing the situation to a safe conclusion.
