ARLINGTON, Texas (TXAN 24) - Texas Tech opened the game up with its first drive and moved the ball down the field with multiple yards after the catch runs until BYU's defense was able to get a stop on 3rd down near midfield forcing a punt.

BYU started its first drive of the game in the shadow of their own goal post at the ten yard line. Freshman Bear Bachmeier and the Cougars converted three third down attempts to get inside the red zone of Texas Tech.

Texas Tech had not given up points on any of their opening defensive drives the entire season; BYU ended that with a ten yard touchdown run by Junior running back LJ Martin to strike first in the Big XII Championship game.

In Red Raider fashion they began the next drive with a deep pass up the middle to Senior wide out Reggie Virgil for 30 yards to get their fans back involved in the contest; but ultimately settled for a field goal.

Texas Tech took its first lead of the game in the second quarter on a tip toe catch by wide out Coy Eakin which was a confirmed as a catch after video review, making the score 10-7, after a successful point after kick.
