34 Texas High Schools Win $5,000 in T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights Program

DALLAS, Texas (TXAN 24) — Thirty-four Texas high schools have each won $5,000 through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights program, providing a combined $170,000 to football programs across the state.

The funding can be used for needs including new helmets, weight room equipment, uniforms, travel costs and other program expenses.

The Week 1 Texas winners are:

• Burkburnett High School — Burkburnett, Wichita County

• Tarkington High School — Cleveland, Liberty County

• Eustace High School — Eustace, Henderson County

• Florence High School — Florence, Williamson County

• Floresville High School — Floresville, Wilson County

• Freer High School — Freer, Duval County

• Union Hill High School — Gilmer, Upshur County

• Hamshire-Fannett High School — Hamshire, Jefferson County

• Happy High School — Happy, Swisher County

• Hondo High School — Hondo, Medina County

• Hooks High School — Hooks, Bowie County

• Kaufman High School — Kaufman, Kaufman County

• Liberty High School — Liberty, Liberty County

• Lueders-Avoca High School — Lueders, Jones County

• Malakoff High School — Malakoff, Henderson County

• McGregor High School — McGregor, McLennan County

• Morton High School — Morton, Cochran County

• Leverett’s Chapel High School — Overton, Rusk County

• Pearsall High School — Pearsall, Frio County

• Robstown Early College High School — Robstown, Nueces County

• Rogers High School — Rogers, Bell County

• Roma High School — Roma, Starr County

• Rusk High School — Rusk, Cherokee County

• San Elizario High School — San Elizario, El Paso County

• Taft High School — Taft, San Patricio County

• Thorndale High School — Thorndale, Milam County

• Trinidad High School — Trinidad, Henderson County

• Chapel Hill High School — Tyler, Smith County

• Waco High School — Waco, McLennan County

• Warren High School — Warren, Tyler County

• Windthorst High School — Windthorst, Archer County

Texas has been one of the strongest states in the program since its launch in 2024. In the past two years, 112 Texas schools have received a combined $655,000.

Previous Texas schools that advanced deep into the competition include Beaumont United High School and Dumas High School, which were Top 16 finalists, as well as Stockdale High School and Sunray High School, which were Top 25 finalists last year. Each received $25,000.

Now in its third season, Friday Night 5G Lights supports smaller communities where high school football is often a centerpiece of Friday night life.

The program will award more than $8.4 million in prizes this year. In addition to the weekly $5,000 awards, 40 regional finalists will receive $25,000 each, four division champions will receive $250,000 each, and one school will receive a $1 million field upgrade.

Public voting will take place Oct. 8-25, with voters allowed to cast one vote per day. Final four voting will run Oct. 29-Nov. 8, and the grand prize winner will be announced Nov. 12.

Applications remain open through Sept. 18. High schools located in towns with fewer than 150,000 people are eligible, and every applicant is automatically entered into the weekly $5,000 giveaway.
