ATLANTA, Georgia (TXAN 24) — Prairie View A&M Football had a shot to win the HBCU National Championship and came up short.

The PVAMU started out strong in the Cricket Celebration Bowl, shutting down South Carolina State. PVAMU set the tone with a 21-0 first half.

SC State stormed back in the 3rd Quarter with 21 unanswered points to tie the ball game.

Teams then began trading scores putting both offenses on full display in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

As the 4Q waged on the crowd’s cheers and jeers became more intense—as it should considering a national champion would emerge. This game culminated in a 4OT win that had fans on their feet for each overtime.

Could this appearance begin a tradition of championship-level football a PVAMU?

Only time will tell.

The 4OT final score:

PVAMU - 38

SCST - 40

The game was officiated by Sun Belt officials.
