WHITEHOUSE, Texas (TXAN 24) – Miranda Wilt, a local parent, has filed a lawsuit against Whitehouse Independent School District (ISD), claiming that her special needs children were subjected to injuries, harassment, discrimination, and inappropriate comments at school. This legal action follows a February 2024 school board meeting where Wilt addressed the board members directly with her concerns, only to be met with silence and a brief acknowledgment.

Wilt’s allegations, which include reports of harmful remarks related to her children's sexual orientation, have raised serious questions about the district's handling of students with special needs and their treatment within the school environment.

At the February meeting, Wilt stood before the school board, which was attended by members Dr. Todd Raabe, Al Flanagan, Holly Conaway, Dr. Joe Conflitti, Kendric Trimble, Maegan Schneider, and Nick Moss. Wilt spoke passionately about the experiences her children had endured, detailing the harassment and discrimination they faced on a daily basis.

“I’m here today because my children are not safe at school,” Wilt told the board. “They are being subjected to cruel and hurtful comments about their sexual orientation, and it’s taking a toll on their well-being. They are special needs children, and they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”

Despite the gravity of Wilt’s testimony, the response from the board members was far from supportive. After Wilt shared her account of the alleged incidents, the only response from the school board was a brief “thank you” for her comments. There was no further discussion or offer of assistance, leaving Wilt and others in the room frustrated by the lack of engagement from those in positions of authority.

In her lawsuit, Wilt claims that the school district failed to address the issue adequately and allowed the harassment to persist. The legal action has sparked further concerns among local parents, advocates, and community members who are now calling for greater accountability and action from Whitehouse ISD.

Many in the community are outraged by what they see as a lack of support for students who are vulnerable to mistreatment. “The board had an obligation to respond to this family’s concerns,” said one parent who attended the meeting. “For them to just say ‘thank you’ without addressing the problem is a clear indication of how little they care about the students they’re supposed to protect.”

The case has garnered attention not only for its allegations but also for the apparent disregard the school board displayed toward Wilt’s testimony. Legal experts suggest that the outcome of this case could have broader implications for how school districts handle complaints related to harassment, especially for students with special needs.

While Whitehouse ISD has not issued a public statement regarding the lawsuit or the February board meeting, the situation has placed the district under a spotlight. Advocates for Wilt and other concerned parents are now pushing for a more thorough investigation into the district’s practices and for tangible changes to ensure that all students are treated fairly and equitably.

As the lawsuit progresses, Wilt and her supporters are calling for meaningful action from the district, urging school board members to not only listen but also to take concrete steps to address harassment, discrimination and injuries in Whitehouse ISD.
