TYLER, Texas (TXAN 24) — Jim Higdon, co-founder of Cornbread Hemp, spoke with TXAN 24 News in this interview, following Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s veto of Senate Bill 3, which would have denied access to hemp/cannabinoid products in the state.
In an exclusive interview with TXAN 24 News, Higdon said the veto represents a major win for veterans and chronic pain sufferers in Texas.
SB3 can be read in it’s entirety here.
When asked about Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s response to the veto from Greg Abbott, Hudson said, “I’m hopeful that when the special session comes around everyone will have had the chance to calm down and we can be productive adults and we can find real solutions to these problems”
Cornbread Hemp, based in Kentucky, is one of the most vocal CBD brands pushing for cannabis reform in southern states. Higdon noted that Texas, despite its size and economic influence, continues to lag behind in cannabis policy.
“How does the biggest state have the the littlest program? Every this is bigger in Texas… but TCup is how it is?” asked Jim Hudson in response to how SB3 would’ve affected veterans in Texas
Higdon expressed that this monumental moment feels like a tipping point on this issue nationwide and wanted to say thank you to the thousands and thousands of Texans who spoke up to their representatives and made their voices heard.
TXAN 24 News will continue to follow developments in cannabis legislation across the state.
