Dr. Candice Matthews Slams Texas CPS Over Allegations of Negligence and Corruption

TEXAS (TXAN 24) — Dr. Candice Matthews, the State Chair of the Texas Democratic Black Caucus, has taken to social media to call out Texas Child Protective Services (CPS) over alarming allegations involving the treatment of children in the system.

In a series of posts, Matthews accused CPS of failing to protect vulnerable children, citing incidents where minors were reportedly given beer with their groceries and provided with rotten food. She also criticized security personnel for allegedly falling asleep while on duty, leaving children unmonitored.

Beyond negligence, Matthews made even more serious claims, alleging that some CPS employees are engaged in selling children’s Social Security numbers and IDs for “duffle bag money.” She vowed to hold those responsible accountable, stating that she is “coming for their jobs.”

Matthews’ outcry follows conversations with parents and children who have shared their troubling experiences with her. As a prominent advocate for social justice, she has called for immediate action and oversight within CPS to address these concerns.
